Pre-School – Transition to Primary School (Ages 4-5 Years Old)
This final stage of nursery really prepares your children for the next step in their learning journey. We see such a difference in their confidence, resilience and attitude to learning during this stage and it’s great to see how they have flourished over their time in the Albyn Nurseries.
For those who continue their journey into the Albyn Lower School, there is a transition period during the last term where the children spend time in their future classrooms, get to know their teachers and get used to their new surroundings which really makes a difference when they start school.
Like the other Nursery Managers, Mrs Emma McDonald has worked at Albyn for many years – 18 years to be exact! Emma leads a wonderful team of qualified staff who are dedicated in providing the best care for your children.
Applying to Albyn School
All pupils in the Pre-School have the option of applying for a place in Lower 1 at Albyn School. Entrance tests occur in January and offers of places will be made in February. All Pre-School children will spend time in the Lower 1 classrooms from April onwards to familiarise themselves with the school environment. Your child will also experience ‘playtime’ and will be given more responsibility throughout the nursery day.
External New Starts
If your child is due to start in Lower 1 but has not attended the Albyn Nurseries, they will be given opportunities to spend time in the nursery in the summer term in order to familiarise themselves with their future classmates and new surroundings.
Parents will also be invited to attend an induction meeting in June where Lower 1 routines will be discussed and you will be given the opportunity to meet the Lower School teaching staff.
