The aim of the Physics teaching at Albyn School is to stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Physics and in its methods of enquiry.
Physics is a fundamental science and pupils with this background are ideally suited to meet the demands of new technology. Discovering new ideas and principles together with their applications can be a very rewarding experience for all of our Physics students.
The approach to Physics at Albyn lays particular emphasis on the ability to communicate and apply technical knowledge and ideas. The syllabus is designed to be relevant even to those who will not pursue the subject beyond Upper 2.
The acquisition of practical skills is an important aim of the Physics course. These skills are acquired throughout the course in experiments and investigations set in the context of the subject content of the syllabus. The questions emphasise the applications of Physics in everyday life.
Standard Grade Physics is approached from an applications point of view rather than via the traditional areas of Physics. This approach is based on pupils’ real life experiences and hopefully makes the subject more relevant and accessible.
