Music

At Albyn we have an excellent music provision offered to pupils in the Upper School, including music lessons, extra-curricular music activities and the optional instrumental and singing lessons. Miss Laura Pike and Mr Craig McDermott teach Music in the Lower School and are assisted by a number of instrumental instructors.

Class Music Lessons
Upper 1 and Upper 2 pupils will receive one hour of music tuition per week during timetabled lessons. Pupils moving up from the Lower School will continue to add to their skills of playing the recorder while new pupils will be introduced to the reading of music and the playing of the recorder. All pupils will develop their singing and percussion skills and be introduced to the keyboard.

In addition to practical work, all pupils will learn about different styles of music. These will range from Music of Scotland to Electro-Acoustic Music where pupils will undertake both research and written tasks. Outside class, it is expected that all pupils should practise the recorder for homework for at least 10 minutes at a time, four times per week in order to progress at a reasonable pace. Additional homework tasks may also be set. If pupils do not opt to study Music as an examined subject at Intermediate 2, they will continue to have class music lessons in Upper 3 and Upper 4.
