Careers

The Careers Room is situated between Rooms C14 and C17. It is always open and pupils are welcome to browse through any material which interests them.

Mrs Prentice is available at mutually convenient times to discuss subject choice, career options etc. Albyn School has links with Careers Scotland and is a member of the Independent Schools Careers Organisation. Representatives from both are available for consultation through an appointment system.

As part of the new internet based Futurewise programme ISCO organises Careers Experience Days in specific subject areas at Universities and Work Experience Days in a variety of areas. In UIV, pupils take the Morrisby Test which assesses potential and will provide them with a possible career profile as a basis for future research. Pupils also have a week of Work Experience in May, organised by themselves or through School.

There are opportunities for senior pupils to attend Careers Conventions, visit Universities and arrange Work Experience. Advice is given on the completion of all application forms – University, College or Job – and with the writing of personal statements.

In UII, IV, V pupils have one or two 4-week Careers blocks within the PSE programme. These deal with subject choice for ensuing sessions. In UVI pupils have a Civics programme which includes social, ethical and career issues. They may speak to Mrs Prentice whenever they need advice or help.

Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own future careers and to take the time and make the effort necessary to gather information and advice about careers which interest them.
