2008-2009 Estrella

A new business star was born when Estrella Young Enterprise company was formed in August 2008.

The company conducted considerable market research to identify the ideal product for retail. Clan Teddies were popular with the school population and the company intended to produce hand knitted Clan teddies. However, there was one slight problem – the girls couldn’t knit! Knitting lessons began but making the knitted teddies was found to be too time consuming so the company opted to purchase their teddies from a supplier. The teddies proved to be very popular with the company sold 55 teddies at the ASPA Christmas Fayre!!

Estrella needed to reach a wider target audience to encourage healthy sales so the company launched their “Born Again Glam” range of refurbished evening bags. Bags were purchased from charity shops and then cleaned and decorated as required. This range was extremely popular and was an innovative way of recycling as well as supporting charitable organisations. Estrella won the Best Product award at the Young Enterprise Christmas Fayre at the Music Hall in November 2008. At the Inverurie Young Enterprise Fayre they were awarded the Best stall award and the Runner Up Award too.

The Estrella company members were Hager Osman, Rachel McKelvie, Alex Fuhrmann, Gemma Watt, Jessica Brennan, Claire Brownhill, Rebecca Davidson, Rachel Hendry, Jessica Horne, Justine Mitchell, Francesca Stokes and Kate Willox. Estrella has been an extremely successful company and recently secured an order for 30 Young Enterprise teddies for the Young Enterprise Scotland Final in June 2009! The company was one of finalists in the Grampian Area Board Young Enterprise Final. The appearance of one of the team dressed as a bear to promote the Bear range certainly caught people’s attention! The girls also met Richard Farleigh, one of Dragons from the BBC TV programme.

Estrella means star in Spanish. These young female entrepreneurs have truly shone in the business world!
