Albyn School’s Minors ski teams made a valiant attempt to brave pretty severe weather and driving conditions in order to participate in this years Scottish School’s minors Ski Race at the Lecht on February 2nd 2010. The Girls’ team included Heather Bruce and Catriona Brooker from UI and Anna Rennie and Maxine Bell from UII. The Boys’ team included Gregory Baillie and Elliot White from L7 and David Purdie and Ollie Kinghorn from UI. For some of us and many other schools it wasn’t to be as the police took the decision to close the road from Strathdon. Unfortunately, for David, Ollie and Elliot this meant they were stuck at the bottom of the mountain but were able to enjoy some skiing at Glenshee instead. Our Girls team made it and were able to compete with Catriona Brooker coming 13th out of 40 competitors. All skied exceptionally well and represented the school impressively. Thanks to them all for participating. Gregory, the one boys team member who made it up the mountain, was unable to race but was lucky enough to be able to be course Forerunner for both the boys and girls races. He was the only one who was able to ski the course twice. Gregory’s time would have been enough to make it into the top 10 skiers in the Boys race.
Many thanks to all the parents, Mrs Baillie, Mrs Brooker, Mr Bruce, Mr. Purdie and Mr Rennie for all their help on the day with transport and support; it is invaluable and very much appreciated. All in all those who were able to race and those who skied over in Glenshee had a fabulous, if cold and windy, day. Looking forward to next year already!
