Trips and Activities

Throughout the year pupils undertake many trips in the U.K. Europe and beyond. These draw on their interests and aptitudes enriching pupils’ experience of school life and adding to their personal development. Some activities also encourage pupils to become involved with the local community and develop their leadership skills.

Some recent School trips include visits to: Lochter Activity Park, Archeolink, St Andrews University, Sensations in Dundee, Satrosphere, Natural History Museum, Maritime Rescue in Stonehaven, Aberdeen Environmental Education Centre, Zoology Dept in University, Art Gallery, Ardeonaig, Collieston & Balmedie Beaches, Mountain Rescue Team, Fraserburgh Lighthouse Museum, Cinema, Dynamic Earth Edinburgh, Culloden, Stirling, London, Manchester, York, a ski trip to France and recently a sports tour to Barbados to name but a few. There is also an annual U2 social studies trip to Edinburgh, as well as excursions to the Scottish Parliament and the Aberdeen City Council Townhouse.

These trips do vary throughout the year and for the year groups involved, but some of the larger trips for senior pupils take place during the School’s activities week at the beginning of June. This year a group of senior pupils will be travelling to Rome and Sorrento to see the splendours of Ancient Rome and the ruins of Pompeii. Another group will be sightseeing in Paris, taking in the sights, visiting the Paris St Germaine Football Ground, the Stade de France and the French Open.

Those staying in the U.K can visit Manchester and Alton Towers, take part in a watersports week in Cumbrae where the pupils have the option of completing a certificate in either sailing, kayaking or wind-surfing. Pupils staying in Aberdeen have an action packed week with trips to the Cairngorms, training in bushcraft survival skills and orienteering, cooking classes, self defence lessons, ceramics workshops, musical theatre, a walk at Lock Muick, Crathes Castle, Forvie Sands, Dundee and finsih off the week with a multi activity day of quad biking, go-karting and archery.

For our U4-U6 pupils we have bi-annual expeditions in conjunction with a company that specialises in month long treks. In the past pupils have journeyed to Equador and Borneo where they trekked up mountains, worked with orphans, helped build pathways, experienced a different culture and had the opportunity for personal development. In 2011 we will have 2 teams of senior pupils heading off to Peru and Tanzania for a month long expedtion.
