The Nursery Day

The Nursery routine involves the children in a wide range of activities and experiences which help with their development and will ease their transition into Pre-School Nursery and ultimately Lower 1.

A typical Nursery week will involve the children in baking, painting, role play, games, ICT, music, songs & rhymes, jigsaws, art & craft, construction, block play, sand, water, physical activity, drawing and stories. The children also have input from the P.E. and Music specialist from school. We like to use our immediate environment as much as possible and so we sometimes take the children out, either in small groups or as a class, if we have an appropriate number of helpers.  Parents are asked to sign a form to give permission for these outings which are an important part of the Nursery curriculum. From time to time we will ask parents to share in the children’s experiences.

Behaviour in Nursery

Within Nursery, we expect and encourage children to behave well.  We model and praise good behaviour and help children to develop an understanding of the need for rules.

We believe that the most important factors in managing children’s behaviour are consistency and fairness.  During the first few months of attendance at Nursery your child’s behaviour may change as he/she settles in and gets to know the routine.  This is perfectly acceptable and normal.  If you notice any changes in your child’s behaviour which give cause for concern, please don’t hesitate to come and discuss the matter.  Should you know of any reason why your child is upset, do tell us so that we can offer you our support.

We deal calmly and sensitively with any incidents of inappropriate behaviour.  If such a situation occurs involving your child, we will discuss it with you.
