A Typical Day

The activities in our Ante Pre-School and Pre-School help children with their development and confidence.

A typical week will involve the children in a range of activities that we have designed to be safe, yet more challenging than when they were in our Toddler Nursery. These activities include; science time, baking, gardening, painting, imaginative play, ICT and lots of physical activities including trips to local parks. Once a week the children will receive PE lessons within the School and Music from a specialist music teacher, there is also the opportunity to join ballet and football classes.

The children will have the opportunity to play outside as often as possible throughout the year so they can participate in vital outdoor experiences. These include exploring the local environment and community which we believe are an important part of the Nursery Curriculum.

Unlike the Toddler Nursery, the children in both the Ante Pre-School and Pre-School will be taken by staff to the school dining room for lunch each day. The lunches on offer are nutritious and the children are given the opportunity to taste a variety of foods. During the daily snack times, the children help to prepare and set the table for snack as well as help to clear the table and put away their dishes. We encourage good manners and a positive attitude towards food at snack and lunch time. Drinking water is available at all times throughout the day and the children also have the option of milk to drink at snack and lunch times. A menu is displayed in the Albyn Nurseries and is also available on the School’s website. We have our own snack recipe book which has been compiled from healthy snack ideas suggested by parents, children and staff.

Our Nursery transition programme helps children to become accustomed to changes and new environments. Throughout the year the Ante Pre-School children will visit the Pre-School Nursery for weekly assemblies and during the Summer term for short play sessions. An information meeting for parents will be held in June to view the nurseries and ask the staff any questions.
