Thursday 9 February 2012
This year we have two school orchestras: The Elementary Orchestra welcomes pupils who are learning instruments up to around Grade 3 standard. It is run by one of our highly skilled Woodwind Instructors, Mrs Ros Coleman, and rehearses in the Atrium on Thursday lunchtimes.
The School’s First Orchestra is for those who have achieved Grade 4 and above in their chosen instrument(s). It will rehearse in sections – Strings and Woodwind, Brass and Percussion and will then come together regularly to rehearse as a whole. It will be conducted by me while Mr McDermott will assist in the sectional rehearsals. This will rehearse on a Wednesday 4.00-5.00pm in the Music Department.
Lower School Choir
The School expects all children from Lower 3 to Lower 7 to join the Lower School Choir and to take part in shows, concerts and services. I will conduct this choir which will meet on Tuesdays at 12.50pm in the Main Hall.
Lower School Treble Recorder Group
There is an opportunity for Lower 6 and Lower 7 pupils who have mastered the descant recorder to move on to treble recorder. The treble recorder group will commence in the next few weeks once a rehearsal time has been finalised.
Ceilidh Band
We are pleased to announce that a Ceilidh Band is being re-formed here at Albyn School. Mr McDermott encourages those who are at Grade 4 standard or above and who play the piano, string, flute, whistle, accordion, drum kit, guitar and bass guitar players to join the band. Further information and rehearsal times will be announced in the next few weeks.
