At Albyn we have an excellent music provision offered to pupils in the Lower School, including music lessons, extra-curricular music activities and the optional instrumental and singing lessons. Mrs Laura Jarret and Mr Craig McDermott teach Music in the Lower School and are assisted by a number of instrumental instructors. Class Music Lessons
In Lower 1 and Lower 2, each class receives one 40 minute period of music per week when singing and the basics of rhythm are taught. From Lower 3, the descant recorder is introduced to all children and the lessons increase to two per week. One lesson will concentrate on listening and inventing music and the other will focus on learning how to play the recorder and the theory of music. Outside class, it is expected that all pupils should practise the recorder for homework for at least 10 minutes at a time, four times per week in order to progress at a reasonable pace. Singing will play an integral part of the learning of Music throughout the Lower School. In Lower 6, all pupils will be introduced to basic drum kit skills.
