Beyond the Classroom

Giving children the opportunity to learn outside the classroom is a very important aspect of school life at Albyn. Children get regular opportunities to participate in educational visits that link into the work being covered at school. These include local trips and walking trails in and around Aberdeen to visiting more distant venues such as the Scottish Parliament and Edinburgh Zoo.

On top of this throughout the Summer Term the Lower 1s go on a series of trips on Fridays giving them a wider experience of their world- whether this is exploring a wood, playing on a beach or making (and eating) their own pizzas.

From Lower 5 children have the opportunity to go on several school residentials during Activities Week. These build up from a 2 night stay at an outdoor centre in Lower 5, a 4 night stay at the same centre in Lower 6 and then to a trip to Normandy in Lower 7. The focus of these trips is mainly social and many children return home having learnt new skills such as how to sweep a floor or make a bed! The Normandy trip in Lower 7 takes children out of their comfort zone and into another culture, we also take the opportunity to explore much of the History of that part of the world.

There are a large range of extra-curricular activities including sports teams, craft clubs, and music/ dancing clubs. Our aim is to provide some kind of extra-curricular opportunity for every child in the Lower School.
