Albyn’s Potato Growers!

Albyn’s busy pupils are trying their hands at a new interest- growing potatoes! The Lower 7 Science club has entered the National Potato Growing Competition, a competition for all primary school pupils in Aberdeen.

The Lower 7’s had to grow the potatoes from seed in special bags; they also chose their own compost, with one group using organic coffee grounds and another using chemical fertilizer. They watered them every week and on Friday 19 June 2009 the pupils weighed the potatoes and emailed the results to the Potato Council.

The winners will be announced in August 2009.
