New Classroom Block

When pupils enter Upper School they move away from the class teacher-centred learning of the primary environment to study a broader curriculum taught by subject specialists in the arts, sciences, technology, music and the social sciences. The combination of breadth and balance enables us to draw out and fulfill the potential of pupils in our charge.

The new classroom block will create an additional 10 large classrooms with associated storage and cloakroom facilities over two floors. These additional rooms provide the opportunity for the School to introduce new subjects and to reorganize its Upper School teaching with more popular classes enjoying the larger rooms and the smaller sets so often associated with public examination work, taking place in the more intimate surroundings of the traditional buildings.
The new classroom block will be raised up on columns to preserve the existing playground area beneath. Large areas of glazing will be provided in each classroom with natural light and ventilation throughout. External solar shading will be incorporated to prevent any overheating of the classrooms in the summer months.

The materials used will be similar to those used in the Lower School, with large strips of glazed curtain walling contrasting the solid elements of the rendered walls and polished granite banding. Solar panels will be used to generate hot water and a comprehensive ICT network will be provided to allow information technology to be available throughout the new classroom block.

Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation.
