Extension To The Oliver Wing To Incorporate The Harriet House Nursery

For many of our pupils, the nurseries are where their Albyn experience first begins. The School aims to nurture the development of enthusiastic and confident children who are looking forward to starting school. Currently Albyn has two separate nurseries to cater for the changing needs of our very young children. The new development brings together Harriet House, together with the Oliver Wing that houses both our Ante-Pre and Pre School.

A new purpose built nursery will be constructed adjacent to the Oliver Wing and joined to it at ground floor level. Two spacious rooms with under floor heating, shared kitchen and associated storage and cloakroom facilities will be provided for 40 children while ‘Miss Oliver’s House’ will be incorporated into the development to provide washing, cooking and storage facilities with space for the large number of staff care for children in both nurseries. In this way, the nurseries will become unified to provide a continuity of staffing and support for pupils aged 2-5.

The structure of the nursery will generally comprise standard timber frame construction. The materials and detail will be similar to those used in the new science and classroom blocks with glazed curtain walling screens will be defined by feature stone banding, continued around the perimeter.

The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things.
