Albyn’s Upper I/II rugby team have beaten a team from Aberdeen Grammar 22 to 19. This is one of the most spectacular showings of sporting skill, ability and endurance that demonstrates the commitment to and high quality of sports available at Albyn.
Albyn raced to a 17-0 lead after ten minutes with three quickfire tries from Samuel Watson (2) and Kyle Brunsmann. Captain Matt Macfarlane led from the front with an inspired captain’s performance for the entire game with numerous powerful runs and committed tackling. The Grammar School steadily got themselves back into the game with some very controlled rugby and strong running to lead 19-17 when Brunsmann powered over the line, shrugging off four tackles, for his second try that sealed the win.
Flankers Peter Haugh and Sam Johnson put in a power of work on the ground, securing possession on numerous occasions and setting the platform for a back line that was well controlled by Mayon Patel at fly-half. It is testament to the players commitment who trained hard throughout the winter when many sessions were forced indoors due to the weather.
Well done!
