For entry into Year 1 of the Upper School (the majority of cases) all pupils must be registered with the school before any application for fee assistance is submitted (please see the Application for Admission forms) and all applicants have to pass the standard Upper School Entrance Examination in January. In borderline cases, due account will be taken of previous school reports. Successful applicants will be ranked according to their overall academic ability, scoring 1 for the top, 2 for the second, etc.
Once entrance results are known, successful applicants seeking fees assistance will be ranked according to need, based on confirmation of the details submitted by parents/guardians on the fees assistance form.
Scores will be allocated as follows: 1 for the neediest, 2 for the next, etc, based solely on gross household per capita income (PCI). For a household of 2 parents and 2 children, with gross income of £40,000, the PCI would be £10,000.
The academic and financial scores are then combined to give a final ranking, the top being the least combined score. Fees assistance awards are made from the top of the list, downwards, until the available places and/or finance is exhausted.
Awards will relate to PCI as follows:
PCI Award (% of full fees)
£7,000 or less 100%
£7,001 – £7,999 99% – 80% pro rata
£8,000 – £8,999 79% – 60% pro rata
£9,000 – £9,999 59% – 40% pro rata
£10,000 – £10,999 39% – 20% pro rata
£11,000 – £11,999 19% – 5% pro rata
£12,000 or over Nil

For pupils entering the entrance examinations for Upper I in January, an application for Fees Assistance may be combined with an application for one or more of the Scholarship awards.
For entry into later years, candidates must pass the appropriate year-specific test and attend an interview. If there are funded places available in that year, awards will adhere as closely as practicable to the Table 1 criteria. Due account will be taken of previous school reports and the child’s potential to take full advantage of an Albyn education.
Individual awards will be reviewed annually and recalculated, as per Table 1, to reflect PCI changes. Other than for this reason, fees assistance once granted will only be withdrawn if the contractual conditions and obligations of the award have been broken.
A copy of the Fees Assistance Application Form (CONFIDENTIAL once completed) and award conditions is available below.
For further details please contact the School Bursar, Mr Colin Boag on 01224 322408.
Successful applicants will be notified in due course.
