Boarding at Albyn School

Welcome to our page about boarding at Albyn School.

Albyn School has a long history of preparing pupils for university and offers a range of Highers, Advanced Highers and A Levels recognised in the UK and around the world. The School has an equally long history offering boarding accommodation and it is only in recent decades that it became a day school. Having received a number of enquiries from current parents and those applying from overseas, Albyn School will be returning to offering boarding accommodation from August 2016 for pupils aged 12+

Location

Albyn School is located in the north east of Scotland with a journey time to London by plane of just over one hour. Aberdeen offers a very high quality of life with beautiful coastlines and castles on its doorstep. The city is fortunate to have two world renowned universities – Aberdeen University and Robert Gordon’s University. Aberdeen has a variety of leisure activities on offer; cinemas, ten pin bowling, theatres, indoor climbing and skiing.

The Boarding Accommodation

The boarding house itself is a traditional granite house and is situated just a 5 minute walk away from the school campus. The house has 2 bright and comfortable social areas for pupils to enjoy along with a garden and pupils’ kitchen for their use at weekends and in the evenings. The spacious bedrooms are either twin or single rooms and all have ensuite facilities. The boarding house is designed to be a home away from home by providing a safe, structured and independent living environment for each pupil. This type of living environment will prepare them well for University.

Sports and Recreational Activities

The School has excellent sports facilities located at Milltimber, southwest of Aberdeen City. There we have a pavilion, three pitches used principally for football and hockey, four tennis courts and a running track. The School also draws upon facilities at the Aberdeen Sports Village and Robert Gordon’s University to train our teams and rowing crews. The PE programme is also taught onsite within the school gym, Former Pupil’s Centenary Hall and purpose built flood lit netball and tennis court. Boarders will have a programme of recreational activities to take part in at weekends in the local area such as visiting local art galleries, castles, beaches and theatres.
