Musician of the Year Awards 2017

The Musician of the Year awards is certainly one of the highlights of the Music Departments calendar, and this year was no exception.

Each year a selection of the best musicians in Albyn School take part in various stages to get to the finals which this year were held last Tuesday in the Centenary Hall. The competition was judged by a very special selection of panelists, Susan Sneddon – Head of Woodwind at Dundee High, Alyn Ross – Head of Music at Inverness Royal Academy and Chris Gray – Director of Scottish Opera Connect Company and affiliate of the University of Aberdeen. We were honoured to have them visit Albyn School although they unlikely knew of the difficulty of the task ahead.

The standards were exceptionally high with many audience members and staff commenting of how tough it was to guess who the winner would be. However, our judges were able to decide and in the end they announced the following pupils as the victors:

Yavi P (L7b) – Lower School Musician of the Year

Aaron M (U1F) – Upper School Musician of the Year

Adam A (U5S) – Sheriffs Cup Winner

Well done to our winners and to everyone who took part for putting on a great evening of outstanding musical talent.
