Sports Trip To Marbella
Albyn School is planning an Upper School Football, Hockey and Netball sports tour to Marbella in October 2012. The information has been uploaded to the secured sports letters area of the website. There will be a parents evening on Tuesday 17 Jan at 6.30pm-7pm in school.
U6 Carol Singers
Senior pupils at Albyn School have been bringing Christmas cheer this week to the senior citizens of Aberdeen. The U6 pupils have been Carol Singing at four venues over the last week (Rubislaw Park Care Home, Margaret Clyne Court Sheltered Housing, Ashley House Residential Home and Hazlewood School). They organised the music and venues themselves and really enjoyed the experience. The whole of Hazlewood came to listen and joined in too!
Christmas Card Competition
Abigail Byrne of Lower 6b has been chosen as the winner of a Christmas card competition run by Dame Anne Begg, MP for Aberdeen South. Abigail was 1 of over 1000 entries and this year’s judges were; Steve Bedford of Mnemonic Photography and Kate Spry, a recent graduate from Gray’s School of Art.
Cameron Dawson of Lower 4b was 1 of 6 runners up.

Jennifer Joins The Wizard of Oz!
Jennifer McClung of L4a will be singing and performing in The Wizard of Oz on ice at the Linx Ice Arena on Sunday 18 December 2011 3pm & 7pm. Tickets £10 (U16/Students/Concesssions £7).
The cast features 2 times British Champion Matthew Parr and he will be supported by a cast of Scottish Skaters and local Aberdeen Skaters from the Linx Ice Arena’s ice skating clubs and the Skate UK Learn to Skate programme.
The Wizard of Oz story has been magically transformed into this On Ice production and promises to capture the imagination with dazzling performances this Christmas.

Gordon Clan Charity Event
The Gordon clan at Albyn School held a hugely successful charity event earlier this week in support of Cancer Research UK raising over £700!
Thank you to all who supported the event. Mr Craig McDermott, head of Gordon clan said: “The pupils of Gordon have done themselves proud and organised two days of fantastic activities for both the Lower and Upper School. It was fantastic to see the Lower School enjoying the games, popcorn and, most of all, Melissa Bremner, Selina Pope and Judy Humber (all U5) dressed as Santas!”

Albyn’s Enterprising Pupils!
The results from the recent Grampian Young Enterprise Aberdeen Trade Fair have been announced. The event took place over two Saturdays in Belmont Street, Aberdeen.
Future Prospects, an Upper 5 YE company, won the following awards: Best Trade Stand, their product was given second place in the Best Product competition and they were placed fourth in the Best Sales and Marketing competition. Future Prospects were judged the Overall Winners with a score of 90 /100. This is a fantastic result as the company was judged the Overall Winner at the Aberdeenshire Trade Fair earlier in November where 31 companies took part in the competition.
Dain Tea, another Upper 5 YE company, won the following awards; Best Sales and Marketing. They were runners up in the Best Trade Stand competition and were placed third in the Best product competition. In the Overall competition Dain Tea were placed third with a score of 87/100. This is a terrific achievement as the competition at the outdoor market was fierce!
The Upper 6 company SPA2GO were placed 9th in the Overall competition and this was a great result as this was their first sales experience as a company.
Congratulations to the girls for their hard work and commitment. Thanks also to the link Teachers, Mrs Kavanagh and Miss Munro and to the Business Advisers- Dr. Hazel Ibbetson, Amanda Young and Ian Tannock.

Gym Cup
The winners of this year’s gym cup competition are; Ellie Rintoul and Duncan Depasquale of Lower 7. The competition was held this morning and all competitors did very well.

T- in the Atrium at Albyn!
On Monday 5 December 2011 at 1pm the Music Department held their own Charity Gig for pupils and staff; ‘T in the Atrium’. The show highlighted new soloists and groups within the Department and gave them a platform to perform.
The individual performers were; Gael McGregor, Ella Winter, Harriet Rafferty and Katharine Buchan. Targer groups included our own Cantabile, Wind Band, both Rock Bands and the Upper School Recorder Group.
A collection was taken and we raised over £300 for GASROCAN (GRAMPIAN GASTRO-OESOPHAGEAL CANCER RESEARCH FUND) this was dedicated to Mr Kevin Carter, former Biology Teacher who sadly passed away a number of weeks ago.

Senior School Ski Trip Alpe D’Huez
A reminder to all pupils going on the Ski Trip to Alpe D’Huez, must bring their Passports to school on the day of departure, Dec 31st 2011, not before the end of term as previously indicated. A letter is being sent home with final information and can be found under the Upper School secured area. If any parent requires a replacement information booklet please let Mrs Gray know.
